Using Greenhill's formula a 250 grain .45 caliber bullet, I used an XTP for this, requires a 1-49 twist to stabilize. I suspect that longer bullets/conicals will require a faster twist. A 300 grain .45 XTP requires a 1-39 1/2 to stabilize. That bullet does VERY well in my 1-38 Firehawk.The T/C Hawken is a 1 in 48" twist. This is a compromise between a slower round ball twist (1 in 66" to 1 in 72") and a conical twist (1 in 24" to 1 in 32" twist). In reality, it's not great for either. Some T/C Hawkens shoot round balls well and some shoot conicals and sabots well, rarely do you find one that shoots both well.It seems like there is a possibility of movement since the tang is separate from the barrel. By the way, to enjoy the benefits of a good peep sight the barrel on a TC is liable to require bedding.
