NEWKIRK — Fire departments from Newkirk, Kildare, and River Road are on scene of a house fire in the 100 block of north Walnut in Newkirk. Crews responded to the scene at 7:07 p.m. Kay County Emergency Management Daniel Hesson said that crews currently have the fire contained but that the fire is still smoldering.Kildare fire chief Travis Harris said that Kay County firefighters were assigned to the edge of the fire line and asked to extinguish any smoldering and burning debris such as trees. They were released from the fire scene at 2:17 a.m. and headed back to Kay County.
