Since some petpet species and colours can only be obtained via the petpet Lab Ray or created with the petpet Lab Ray exclusively, I think that validates all zapped petpets as legitimate Neopian creatures. The Secret Laboratory is a place owned by the Mad Lab Ray Scientist. He has developed a Lab Ray that can alter your pet in many ways, good or bad. If you take your pet there that's a risk you're taking. Either things may happen that you don't want to happen to your pet, or loads of good stuff can happen to your pet-- anything is possible! The Lab Ray goes for around 2mil for the set (last I saw). I didn’t use the lab ray with the battledome in mind, so I can’t really comment on that, but it does look pretty impressive to have a swole pet—although the stats that the lab ray gives are definitely unbalanced. It was worth it for me. But it's also a long game with a good dash of luck. But I enjoy the surprise.
